June Newsletter

When Chorus kids invade the Music Room...

The last few weeks of school are upon us and I wanted to take some time in this last newsletter of the school year to highlight some upcoming events and to reflect and recognize our students' musical accomplishments.

I've added a new section to my website called Concert Highlights. On the Home page, you'll see the link in the lower left hand corner. You can watch or listen to clips of my Chorus from our recent Spring Concert to concerts from previous years. Have a video or audio of my Chorus that you'd like to share? Please email me at ps261chorus@gmail.com.

Pre-K: If I could give an award to the group that has shown the most growth, it would most definitely be the Pre-K! When I think about where these students were in September, and how far they have progressed socially, emotionally, and musically, I am indeed impressed! Shout out to the Pre-K teachers: Ms. Vivian and Ms. Elizabeth, and Ms. Yvonne and Ms. Trina for all that you've done for these students. The Pre-K End of Year Celebration will be held on Tuesday, June 23rd. Pre-K families: please speak to your child's teachers for more information, including the auditorium rehearsal schedule in preparation for the big day. Looking forward to celebrating with you then!

Kindergarten: The K students will also be making their way to the stage on Wednesday, June 24th for their K celebration. K families: Please speak to your child's teacher if you need information about the day, including the auditorium rehearsal schedule in preparation for the big day. We have been practicing for weeks, and the students are extremely excited! Shout out to the K teachers for being an awesome and hard working group of teachers!

Chorus: Another concert season is done, and another amazing group of talented kids that I've had the opportunity to work with this year has come to a close. While I anticipate that many of my 4th Grade Chorus students will return with me next year to sing in the 5th Grade Chorus, it is almost time for me to bid farewell to my current 5th Grade students. These students have worked hard are so involved in countless school activities. I am grateful, that even with their already busy schedules, they still were excited to come and sing with me on Tuesdays and Fridays. Shout out to the Chorus kids for an amazing Chorus year!

Parents: Lastly, I want to thank all the parents who make our school so unique, so great, and such a wonderful place to work. The arts are alive at our school because of you. Even after nine years of teaching, it never gets old to have a parent stop me in the hall or the yard, or come by room to tell me that their son or daughter constantly talks about how much they enjoy my class. It still means so much to hear that in a job that is very much rewarding as it is stressful and often exhausting. Shout to the parents who do so much for our school!

Have an amazing summer, hope we can do it all over again next year...but even better :)
