End of Year Newsletter

What a year it has been! Pre-K and Kindergarten have been so eager and excited about Music class. We have been strengthening our knowledge of beat and rhythm, and we have been learning about using our singing voices correctly. The games we have been playing help to strengthen our musical and social skills. We are also very excited about instruments and adding them to our favorite stories.

3rd and 5th Grade have done absolutely wonderful work on the xylophones this year. We were able to explore our Orff instruments and add a brand new Bass metallophone (thanks to Donors Choose). Our 3rd and 5th graders learned what it means to collaborate on instruments not just as a class, but as an ensemble. We looked at improvisation with instruments in 3rd grade and songwriting, using instruments as an accompaniment, in 5th grade. The students worked hard for weeks to play arrangements on songtales like "Follow The Drinking Gourd" and "Abiyoyo".

This ended up being a wonderful year for Chorus! They especially shined during Arts Week, with performances everyday both in the lobby and over the loudspeaker. Their dedication to the group and singing was enormous and they rose to the challenge when it came to tackling difficult pieces. I will very much miss our 5th Grade Chorus members who are moving on to middle school.

And that's it! Until September...

Happy Summer!
