Pre-K kids showing how to hold their sticks in rest position.

This 2nd grader remembers how to hold her sticks in playing position!

Rhythmic dictation with Popsicle sticks: A second grade student acts as "teacher" and claps a 4 beat rhythm with rhythms we have already learned. The teacher then chooses a student to write out the rhythm. When the student is done, a third student is selected as the "checker". The job of the checker is to clap what the student has written and determines whether it matches what the teacher originally clapped. If it is correct, the student now becomes the teacher.

2nd graders are familiar with the four music notes DO, MI, SOL, and LA. We are now learning how to place the sounds on the music staff. To do so, we are using my carpet as a kinesthetic way of understanding the difference between skips and steps.
