September Newsletter

My new music room, Room 150, located inside the cafeteria.

And we're back!! Hope everyone had a summer to remember.

Another school year is here, and with it comes lots of changes. But the music program continues forward! My new student teacher, Kristina Abella, from NYU has been a big help getting things off and running. She will be at 261 during her Fall semester and will be working with nearly all of my classes during her stay.

September has very few school days this year so this is review month in music class. First and Second Graders are reviewing music concepts they learned last year. As I write this newsletter, I still have not met all of the new Pre-K and Kindergarten students but I look forward to meeting them in the coming weeks. Chorus Auditions will also be starting soon. If your child is in 4th or 5th Grade and would like to try out for Chorus, they should pick up a form. Forms can be found on the bulletin board outside my room. PLEASE NOTE: If your child was in Chorus last year and would like to return to Chorus this year, they do not need to re-audition, they're already in!

2nd Graders are ready to make music!

If you're interested in finding out more about what music will look like this year, then I encourage you to come to our schools' Curriculum Night. It will be held on Thursday, September 17th from 5pm - 8pm. I will be available to chat during the first part of the evening. If you aren't able to make it, I'm usually available to chat during morning dropoff, or you can always email me at ps261chorus@gmail.com.

During the school year, I will continue to update this site on a monthly basis; my hope is that I also will add more photos and videos of student progress in the newsletters. Looking forward to another great year of music making with my students!
